Liberalisation efforts in Africa

Very interesting to read about telecom liberalisation efforts in Africa. Uganda Communications Commission has announced that it will completely liberalise telecom provisioning in Uganda now that an exclusivity license has expired (see http://allafrica.com/stories/200611010423.html ) Meanwhile, South Africa that had already liberalised, seemed to be moving towards creating a new state run operator. Interesting comments on this (see http://www.moneyweb.co.za/shares/ict_sector/366020.htm See mention in that article to a company by the name of Uninet. I met them at WSIS Tunis, and they have the coolest technology for Wi-fi Mesh. Very successfully implemented to offer Public WLAN services and could be a cheaper alternative to WiMax. Definitely a company to watch!! (see www.bayareajournal.blogspot.com) for pictures I took in Tunis on Uninet (not very good ones though)
